Future Africa Concern Institute (FACI)

Ethics & Accountability

Description:
This course focuses on the role of ethics and accountability in building trustworthy, transparent, and resilient institutions. It examines how values-based leadership, ethical standards, and accountability mechanisms shape organisational culture, decision-making, and public confidence. Participants explore ethical principles and their application to leadership, governance, and day-to-day operations. The course addresses ethical dilemmas commonly faced by organisations, including conflicts of interest, misuse of authority, weak accountability, and failures of integrity. Through case-based discussion, participants learn how ethical lapses undermine trust, damage institutional credibility, and expose organisations to legal and reputational risk. The course also examines practical mechanisms for promoting accountability, including codes of conduct, reporting and whistleblowing systems, leadership responsibility, and organisational learning. Emphasis is placed on embedding ethics into institutional culture rather than treating it as a formal or symbolic requirement. Participants leave the course with practical tools to strengthen ethical decision-making, promote responsible leadership, and foster a culture in which individuals understand their responsibilities and are accountable for outcomes.
