This course offers a comprehensive and practical examination of the roles and responsibilities of boards in governing organisations effectively. It is designed to clarify board functions, strengthen oversight, and support boards to add strategic value while maintaining accountability and ethical standards. Participants explore core board responsibilities, including setting strategic direction, overseeing executive leadership, approving policies and major decisions, ensuring financial integrity, monitoring organisational performance, and safeguarding institutional reputation. The course addresses the critical distinction between governance and management, helping participants navigate role boundaries that are often blurred in practice. The course also engages with real-world governance challenges such as ineffective board dynamics, weak accountability, limited strategic engagement, and inadequate risk oversight.
