Future Africa Concern Institute (FACI)

Corporate Governance Principles

Description:
This course provides an in-depth exploration of the principles and practices that guide how organisations are directed, controlled, and held accountable. It is designed to strengthen governance systems across public institutions, private enterprises, and civil society organisations, with particular attention to African institutional contexts and realities. Participants examine the foundations of good governance, including transparency, accountability, ethical leadership, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability. The course explores how governance frameworks shape strategic decision-making, manage power and responsibility, and protect organisational integrity over the long term. Emphasis is placed on understanding governance not as a compliance exercise, but as a strategic function that directly influences performance, legitimacy, and public trust. Through applied case studies and guided discussions, participants engage with common governance challenges such as board effectiveness, conflicts of interest, weak oversight, and misalignment between governance structures and organisational strategy. The course also examines emerging governance risks and the evolving expectations placed on leaders and institutions in complex operating environments. By the end of the course, participants are equipped with practical tools to assess governance arrangements, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and support informed, ethical, and strategic leadership within their organisations.
Who should attend:
Board members, trustees, senior executives, directors, governance professionals, compliance officers, and managers involved in organisational leadership and oversight across public, private, and non-profit sectors.
