Dr. Haron Watene Mwangi

Dr. Haron Mwangi is a distinguished scholar-practitioner in the critical political economy of the media, development, governance, and public policy, with over 11 years of executive-level experience leading research, publication, and high-impact policy initiatives across Africa. A former Chief Executive Officer of the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), he has successfully directed multidisciplinary teams, shaped national policy dialogues, and advanced institutional reforms in complex political and security environments—supporting organizational redesign, regulatory effectiveness, and change management for improved public accountability. His work spans policy analysis, conflict-sensitive governance, strategic communication, and strengthening democratic institutions. Under major international cooperation programs—including SIDA, UNESCO, DW, IMS, and BBC Media Action—Haron has led multi-country research projects, supervised expert consultants, ensured adherence to rigorous methodological standards, and delivered actionable insights that informed reforms in Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, and South Sudan. Complementing his research leadership, he designs and delivers executive and professional training for senior leaders and technical teams on institutional and organizational reform, change leadership, governance systems, strategic communication, and translating evidence into implementable policy imperatives—often through curriculum development, trainer-of-trainers models, and performance-oriented reform toolkits. A prolific researcher and editor, he has produced high-quality academic publications, policy briefs, baseline studies, and regional status reports, while instituting quality assurance mechanisms that uphold international ethical and editorial standards. He has built long-standing partnerships with universities, think tanks, regulatory institutions, legislative bodies, and civil society networks across the continent, and is widely recognized for strengthening analytical capacity through mentorship, training, and international knowledge-exchange platforms.
